This position reports to the Regional Freight Lead and is accountable for the compliant, effective & efficient primary distribution of all freight moving within the region and internationally out of the region. The role is responsible for performance management with AstraZeneca’s regional freight service providers, provides day-to-day logistics support to AZ manufacturing sites and CMOs located in the region to execute movement of goods, identify transportation solutions and improvement opportunities.
Typical Accountabilities
- Support the APAC Freight Lead to ensure all activities associated with the Primary Distribution are executed as expected.
- Good understanding of transportation activity within the AZ Network and familiar with all modes of transportation (sea, air, land). Understands transportation network routing, rate structure and the freight payment process from supplier.
- In collaboration with Freight Forwarders review transit performance to track performance and make the necessary changes and agree corrective actions. Monitor performance to confirm agreed service levels are being met. Works to resolve common issues during forwarding operations, escalates issues as necessary.
- Purchase Request / Order management with Freight Forwarders, collect monthly spend data accurately, support line manager to perform spend analysis and budgeting process.
- Liaise between Freight Forwarders and local / global supply chain colleagues ( Import / Export specialists, Warehouse staff and 3PL partners, Distribution Analysts) to coordinate transportation activities seamlessly into supply chain activities.
- In collaboration with other GLF Business Units ( PCT) tracks temperature management performance and to identify, address issues, and agree corrective actions with Freight Forwarders. Collaborate with PCT and QA to support investigation processes, ensures Route Risk Assessments are up to date and complete for portfolio, especial for new products (including biologics), configurations or shipping lanes as necessary.
- Freight related Change control, deviation, and investigation management in quality system with related suppliers and AZ functions.
- Leverages supplier performance metrics to drive process improvements. Identifies & implements cost saving initiatives for transportation. Identifies the best transportation options for difficult situations ( supply constraints, delays, transportation disruptions, etc..) and gains agreement within AZ on best course of action.
- Provides recommendations to update and optimize the transportation network to meet future business requirements.
Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Essential
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Engineering, Logistics, or other relevant discipline.A minimum of 5 years prior experience is required in the logistics area as well as in the distribution of products from a multi-plant / multi-distribution centre environment.Working knowledge of the logistics industry and the various government agencies and regulations involved with the distribution of products.Experience in working with cross functional teams (as appropriate)Desirable
