About the Role

We are seeking a dynamic and ambitious Deputy Editor with a PhD in the physical sciences and a strong background in Materials Science & Engineering Polymer Engineering or related engineering disciplines to join our in-house editorial team with a particular focus on growing our engineering portfolio.

This role combines scientific expertise knowledge of the publishing landscape and strong communication and networking skills to support the strategic development of one or more journals. The Deputy Editor will work closely with the EditorinChief to raise the journals profile and visibility within the community attract highquality submissions and engage leading researchers worldwide.

The Deputy Editor is expected to participate actively in conferences institute visits and broader outreach activities as well as to manage the peerreview process and make editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts. Ensuring the adoption of best practices and the highest ethical standard in publishing is a core responsibility of the role.

Job Responsibilities

• Strategically develop one or more journals in collaboration with the EditorinChief from both scientific and publishing perspectives within the broader physical sciences journal portfolio.
• Establish and maintain strong relationships with authors peer reviewers and editorial board members.
• Leverage subjectmatter expertise professional networks awareness of field developments and desk research to drive content acquisition and submissions growth.
• Represent Wiley and the physical sciences portfolio at conferences and through inperson and virtual outreach activities at universities and research institutes.
• Collaborate closely with colleagues across departments to support the development and growth of the journal portfolio.
• Contribute to editorial assessment peerreview management and decisionmaking for manuscripts submitted to one or more journals.

Required Skills and Experience

• A PhD in physics chemistry materials science or a closely related discipline; candidates with a background in materials engineering or polymer engineering are preferred.
• Two or more years of postPhD experience (postdoctoral industrial academic publishing and/or international experience is beneficial but not essential).
• A strong publication record and a deep understanding of the physical sciences research landscape.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment and to achieve results through personal influence and engagement.
• A selfmotivated diplomatic and flexible approach with excellent organizational efficiency and timemanagement skills and a strong command of written and spoken English.
• A solid understanding of scientific publishing including commissioning and the peerreview process; prior experience in publishing editorial work or science communication together with familiarity with Open Access workflows and Open Research practices is highly desirable.
• A keen interest in science and science communication and a strong motivation to advocate for innovation in scholarly publishing and open research.
